Berger Montague represented the plaintiffs and played a key role in obtaining $211.7 million in settlements in In re CRT Antitrust Litigation, a case brought on behalf of a class of direct purchasers of cathode ray tubes (“CRTs”) or products containing CRTs, such as televisions and computer monitors, alleging that the defendant manufacturers conspired to fix the prices of CRTs.

The defendants included the leading manufacturers of CRTs and CRT products, including Chunghwa Picture Tubes, Ltd., Panasonic Corporation (formerly known as Matsushita Electric Industrial, Co.), Panasonic Corporation of North America, LG Electronics, Inc., Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Samsung SDI Co., Ltd., Koninkliike Philips Electronics NV (“Phillips”), Toshiba Corporation, Hitachi Ltd., Hitachi Displays, Ltd. (n/k/a Japan Display Inc.), Hitachi America, Ltd., Hitachi Asia, Ltd., and Hitachi Electronic Devices (USA) Inc. (collectively “Hitachi”), Thomson SA and TDA (collectively, “Thomson”), and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Mitsubishi Electric US, Inc., and Mitsubishi Electric Visual Solutions America, Inc. (collectively, “Mitsubishi”). The United States District Court for the Northern District of California granted final approval of settlements totaling $211.7 million, including settlements with Chunghwa ($10 million), Philips ($15 million), Panasonic ($17 million), Toshiba ($13.5 million) and LG entities ($25 million), Hitachi ($13.45 million), Samsung SDI ($33 million), Thomson ($9.75 million), and Mitsubishi ($75 million).
