Practice Area: Government Representation Consumer Protection Defective Products

Case Status: Settled

Settlement Amount: $3.6 billion

Berger Montague was co-lead counsel for the State of Connecticut and helped it recover approximately $3.6 billion from certain manufacturers of tobacco products in its litigation against the tobacco industry.

Led by H. Laddie Montague, Jr. and David F. Sorensen of Berger Montague, the State of Connecticut filed a separate action in state court against the tobacco companies which was litigated separately from the coordinated nationwide actions. Although the State of Connecticut eventually joined the national settlement, its counsel’s contributions were recognized by being awarded the fifth largest award among the states from the fifty states’ Strategic Contribution Fund.
