Acura MDX Tail Light Lawsuit Investigation
Attention: Anyone who owns or leases a 2014 – 2019 Acura MDX.
Berger Montague is conducting an investigation and asking to hear from anyone who drives a 2014 – 2019 Acura MDX and had to pay out of pocket to replace their vehicle’s tailgate lights. These tail lights have a known defect that allows water to leak into the light assembly, and American Honda Motor Company has issued a recall to repair or replace these tailgate lights. We are interested in speaking with consumers to help determine whether a class action lawsuit can be filed.
If you own or lease a 2014 – 2019 Acura MDX, experienced issues with its tailgate lights, sought repair from Honda, and had to pay out of pocket for tailgate light repairs or replacements, please fill out the contact form on this page.
Acura MDX Tailgate Problems
Berger Montague is investigating possible claims against American Honda Motor Company on behalf of consumers who drive a 2014 – 2019 Acura MDX. These models have tailgate lights that were recalled on April 8, 2019. However, you may have paid out of pocket to repair or replace your tailgate lights before Honda announced the recall.
On April 8, 2019, Honda released a statement that reads, in part:
“Acura will voluntarily recall approximately 323,000 model-year 2014-2019 MDX vehicles in the United States to repair, or, if needed, replace the rear tailgate lid lights and, if also needed, associated wiring sub harnesses, free of charge.” (emphasis added)
However, Honda has not publicly announced that it will reimburse Acura drivers who already paid to have their defective tailgate lights repaired. If you are one of those drivers, please fill out the contact form on this page.
Did Acura MDX Drivers Complain About Tailgate Light Problems Before the Recall? Yes.
Numerous Acura MDX owners and lessees complained about problems with their cars’ tail lights before the recall, showing that Honda was aware of the defect. Below are some examples of consumer complaints:
“I have had a number of expensive nuisance issues with my MDX that I paid handsomely for. From day 1 it has had a slow leak in the tire that they say there is nothing wrong with. The driver’s side window whistles and they say it is not ‘a known problem’ and nothing they can do about; and now most recently I was pulled over by the police for a tail light that was not working. I replaced the bulb myself, no avail. Acura says $500 for a new tail light assembly. What does it say about the quality of construction when an enclosed tail light assembly needs to be replaced???” -Posted on June 13, 2018
“I bought the Acura MDX 2014 three months ago, the LED tail light does not work. I took it to the Cerritos Acura dealer for repair (2 times) and they told me the warranty is void because I have one very minor scratch at the light. DO NOT BUY THIS VEHICLE…HONDA is trying to void your warranty and they won’t admit it is engineering problem.” -Posted on July 17, 2014
