About the case
On Dec. 10, 2015, Hyundai was faced with a proposed class action lawsuit in California federal court. The lawsuit accused Hyundai of doing nothing to protect or warn drivers about the possible shattering of their panoramic sunroofs.
Allegedly, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”) has received more than 100 complaints about the sunroofs, and a 2012 investigation by the Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute found that the panoramic sunroofs are prone to shattering.
On November 21, 2016, the Court denied Hyundai’s motion to dismiss. The order can be viewed here.
A proposed settlement was reached on January 30, 2019.
