About the case

Berger Montague is investigating possible claims against General Motors Company on behalf of consumers who purchased or lease a 2014 – 2015 GMC Yukon because of a defective design in the vehicle’s air conditioning system. This defect causes the refrigerant hose to crack and leak coolant, which results in the air conditioning system failing to produce cool air.

What’s wrong with the GMC Yukon air conditioning system?

2014 – 2015 GMC Yukons have a defective bracket design that does not properly restrain the refrigerant hose, which is part of the air conditioning system.

Due to the high pressure the hose is under when the air conditioning is running, an improperly restrained hose can constantly flex back and forth and ultimately crack or break, resulting in the coolant leaking out from the cracked hose.

Once enough coolant leaks from the system, the air conditioner can no longer produce cool air and will only blow warm or hot air instead. In addition, the lack of refrigerant in the system may cause the condenser and compressor to break as well.

Is it possible to fix the GMC Yukon air conditioning problem?

In order to repair this problem, a mechanic or dealership must replace the compressor and condenser lines and install a line bracket to properly restrain the refrigerant hose. These repairs can cost between $300 and $1,000 and sometimes may only fix the problem for a short amount of time.

While the repairs are often covered under warranty, Berger Montague has recently learned that the back order on parts needed for the repair is currently 4 months or longer.
