Come Work with US
Berger Montague works hard to attract and retain the best talent so that we can provide our clients with the highest quality representation. Here are some of the many reasons to join us.
Why Join Berger Montague?
Berger Montague represents workers who have been underpaid, consumers who have been harmed, investors who have been misled, buyers who have overpaid for products, and whistleblowers seeking to right wrongs. We hold wrongdoers to account across a wide variety of industries, including pharmaceutical manufacturers, financial services providers, medical device manufacturers, and oil and chemical manufacturers.
Our cases are complex and require a high degree of skill. We developed formal training programs to help junior attorneys attain a variety of legal skills critical to successfully litigating our cases, including writing briefs, taking depositions, and negotiating with opposing counsel. Berger Montague also created an associate checklist to ensure that attorneys are getting the varied experience they need to progress in their careers. Berger Montague promotes continuous mentoring and feedback. Senior attorneys are evaluated annually on their efforts to mentor and train their less experienced colleagues.
Our approach is very different from that of large defense firms. We do not hire large classes of associates each year with the expectation that most will leave by the time they are eligible to apply for partnership. Berger Montague hires attorneys with the hope that they will be at the firm long term. Indeed, many of our attorneys have been at the firm for 20, 30, or even 40 years. Retention benefits our practice by creating a deep bench of experienced attorneys and providing consistency in our case teams. Consistency is particularly important in practice areas where cases are long-running, like antitrust, qui tam, and environmental litigation. We take a creative and entrepreneurial approach to lawyering.
Berger Montague has been litigating cutting edge cases for over 50 years. We boldly explore new case theories and approaches. We encourage all attorneys at all levels to think expansively about how to use the law to hold wrongdoers accountable. Once a case has been filed, we encourage all attorneys to participate in shaping case strategy.
Berger Montague values teamwork. Each team member is important—whether you are a Shareholder, Counsel, Associate, Summer Associate, or staff. All contributions are important to our success. Our cases are complex and often take years to litigate. It cannot be done alone. To get the best results, we create teams of talented, dedicated, and kind attorneys to work collaboratively and support one another. We have created a culture where team members are motivated to do well because we want to succeed—both for our clients and other team members.
We staff our cases leanly and efficiently, which means that all attorneys at all experience levels get significant responsibility from the start. Associates play a central role in our case teams, including drafting complex briefing, taking depositions, negotiating with opposing counsel, and arguing motions. Attorneys will have real responsibility from day one.
Berger Montague is committed a diverse and inclusive work environment. Recruiting, developing, and promoting diverse talent allows us to bring together a variety of perspectives and experiences to provide creative solutions for the challenges our clients face. It makes us better professionals, a stronger Firm, and a more positive place to work. Learn more about our DEI initiatives www.bergermontague.com/DEI.
