On August 22, 2025, Plaintiff Ross Greenwood filed a class action lawsuit against Cigna Health and Life Insurance Company (“Cigna”) and Evernorth Behavioral Health, Inc. (“Evernorth”) under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (“ERISA”). Plaintiff alleges that the criteria Cigna and Evernorth applied for determining the medical necessity of residential mental-health treatment, and used to administer employer-sponsored benefit plans, are far more restrictive than generally accepted standards of medical practice in violation of ERISA and the terms of the applicable plan documents.
