Biography
Edwina Mayama is an Associate in the Firm’s Toronto office where she practices in the Securities & Investor Protection Group.
Prior to joining Berger Montague, Edwina summered and articled in the Toronto office of a leading national law firm where she worked on a wide range of professional liability, competition/antitrust, commercial, corporate, and civil litigation matters.
Fluent in French and English, Edwina completed bilingual studies at the University of Ottawa where she obtained a JD (with Distinction) and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
While in law school, Edwina held positions as a Registry Officer at the Federal Court of Appeal and Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada, a writer and editor in the Ministerial Correspondence Unit of the Department of Justice, and a Caseworker in the Tenant Division of the University of Ottawa’s Community Legal Clinic.
Prior to law school, Edwina worked in the Ottawa-Vanier constituency office of the previous Member of Provincial Parliament, now Justice Nathalie Des Rosiers, where she assisted with the tabling of Bill 52, Juries Statute Law Amendment Act (Juror Eligibility). Thereafter, Edwina worked as a trade policy analyst on World Trade Organization reform within Global Affairs Canada’s Trade Negotiations division.
Outside of work, Edwina enjoys supporting local musical theatre, running, keeping up with politics, Formula 1, and upcycling clothing pieces in her spare time.
Edwina was called to the Ontario bar in 2024. She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, the Advocates’ Society, and the Group of Racialized Ontario Women Litigators (GROWL).
