Berger Montague Appointed Interim Lead Counsel in Veterinary Residencies Case
Berger Montague, a leading national plaintiff law firm, has been named interim lead class counsel alongside MoloLamken LLP in a federal antitrust lawsuit on behalf of a proposed class of veterinary interns and residents across the United States. Plaintiffs allege that a group of universities, for-profit veterinary practices, and trade associations conspire to suppress compensation and limit employment mobility for veterinary interns and residents. As a result of the conspiracy, veterinary interns and residents endure poor working conditions, long hours, and compensation that often falls below a living wage.
“Veterinary interns and residents deserve a level playing field,” said Shareholder Joshua P. Davis. “They aren’t able to negotiate their salaries or move for a better role, which harms not only the individual interns and residents, but the veterinary industry generally,” said Mr. Davis.
Plaintiffs allege that defendants implement their conspiracy through a match program that links applicants to veterinary intern and residency positions. Defendants’ match program violates federal antitrust laws by prohibiting salary negotiations, limiting employment mobility, and placing other restrictions on veterinary interns and residents seeking work.
