Berger Montague Kicks Off 2026 by Announcing Julia McGrath Has Become a Shareholder
Philadelphia, PA – Berger Montague, the national plaintiffs’ law firm, is proud to welcome Julia R. McGrath as a Shareholder of the firm.
“I’m honored to be joining the ranks of some of the most talented and dedicated antitrust lawyers in the country,” said Berger Montague Shareholder Julia McGrath. “I look forward to contributing to our Firm’s mission of holding powerful corporations accountable and bringing justice for those harmed by anticompetitive conduct,” said Ms. McGrath.
Ms. McGrath practices in the Firm’s Antitrust practice group, representing consumers, businesses, and public entities in high-stakes plaintiffs’ class actions. She prosecutes complex cases involving price-fixing, bid-rigging, illegal monopolization, and other anticompetitive conduct across a wide range of industries—from pharmaceuticals and healthcare to food processing, finance, and manufacturing. Over the last 5 years, Ms. McGrath has helped recover more than $700 million for her clients and the classes she has represented.
“We are extremely pleased to have Julia join our increasingly talented shareholder ranks. She is one of the smartest and hardest-working lawyers in our firm, and we are excited about what she will accomplish for our firm and our clients in the years to come,” said Firm Chairman, Eric L. Cramer.
Ms. McGrath has played a key role in landmark antitrust matters, securing hundreds of millions of dollars in recoveries for her clients, including $398 million for poultry processing workers in Jien v. Perdue Farms (D. Md.); $200+ million for red meat packing workers in Brown v. JBS USA Food Company (D. Colo.) (ongoing); $93 million for purchasers of brand and generic Lipitor in In re Lipitor Antitrust Litigation (D.N.J.) (ongoing); and $51 million for purchasers of brand and generic Seroquel XR in In re Seroquel XR Antitrust Litigation (D. Del.).
She has litigated cases through trial, serving on the trial teams in In re Opana ER Antitrust Litigation (N.D. Ill.) and In re Seroquel XR Antitrust Litigation (D. Del.) (settled on the eve of trial). She also brings experience working with economic experts to develop models of antitrust impact and expertise in e-discovery strategy, with extensive experience negotiating ESI and TAR protocols, managing large-scale document reviews, and leveraging AI-driven tools to streamline litigation.
In addition to her class action work, Ms. McGrath is deeply committed to public service. As Co-Chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee, she represents the government of Mexico in Estados Unidos Mexicanos v. Diamondback Shooting Sports Inc. (D. Ariz.), a case against Arizona gun dealers for allegedly facilitating the trafficking of military-style weapons to drug cartels. She recently filed a high-profile amicus brief, on behalf of 40 organizations dedicated to consumer protection, data privacy, and open markets, in the U.S. Supreme Court case Slaughter v. Trump, a case challenging the President’s attempted firing of Federal Trade Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter. The brief supports Commissioner Slaughter’s reinstatement to the FTC and urges the Supreme Court to uphold nearly a century of precedent protecting members of independent agencies like the FTC from at-will presidential removal without cause.
Ms. McGrath serves on the Executive Board for Justice Rising Advocates for Community Legal Services of Philadelphia and as Co-Chair of the Policy Committee for the Committee to Support Antitrust Laws (COSAL).
Her accomplishments have earned her recognition as a Super Lawyers Rising Star (2025), Premier Class Action’s Lawyers of Tomorrow award (2025), and a Lawyer on the Fast Track by The Legal Intelligencer (2024).
Before practicing law, Ms. McGrath built a successful career in government and politics, advising congressional, gubernatorial, and U.S. Senate campaigns in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She served as Finance Director for U.S. Senator Bob Casey and was appointed by President Obama as Special Assistant to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration.
Ms. McGrath earned her J.D., cum laude, from Temple University Beasley School of Law (2016) and her B.A. in History from Boston University (2007).
