Numerous Berger Montague attorneys have received Martindale-Hubbell’s “AV” Peer Reviewed rating. The “AV” rating is the highest possible Martindale-Hubbell rating and is “a testament to the fact that a lawyer’s peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence,” according to Lexis-Nexis Martindale-Hubbell. This distinction is awarded to less than five percent of all United States lawyers. Martindale-Hubbell’s Peer Review Ratings are not sold. An attorney awarded the “AV” rating has earned that distinction based on the anonymous opinions of attorneys and judges who have witnessed the ethics and legal abilities of the rated lawyer.

The Legal 500 Names Berger Montague a 2019 “Top Tier Firm”
The 2019 United States edition of The Legal 500, an international legal referral guide, has recommended Berger Montague as a Top Tier Firm for Antitrust: Civil Litigation/Class Actions: Plaintiff.
In addition, Firm Chairman Eric L. Cramer and Chair Emeritus & Managing Shareholder H. Laddie Montague Jr. were both named 2019 “Leading Lawyers” in the Civil Litigation/Class Actions: Plaintiff category, while Shareholder Caitlin G. Coslett was named a 2019 “Next Generation Lawyer” in that category as well.

For many years, Chambers and Partners USA has selected our Firm as one of Pennsylvania’s very best. Chambers and Partners most recently observed that Berger Montague’s antitrust group is “a preeminent force in the Pennsylvania antitrust market, offering expert counsel to clients from a broad range of industries, including the chemical, pharmaceutical and transportation sectors. This award is part of the Intelligencer‘s annual Professional Excellence Awards series, which honors Pennsylvania law firms and attorneys who have made a significant, positive impact on the legal profession.
U.S. News and Best Lawyers Name Berger Montague a 2019 “Best Law Firm”
Berger Montague has a history of being highly ranked by U.S. News and Best Lawyers in their annual “Best Law Firms” report, and the 2019 report is no exception. Rankings are broken out on both national and local levels. In Philadelphia, Berger Montague was named a Tier 1 law firm in Antitrust Law, Commercial Litigation, Litigation – Antitrust, and Mass Tort Litigation/Class Actions – Plaintiffs.
Nationally, the firm was named a Tier 2 law firm for Antitrust Law and a Tier 3 law firm for Commercial Litigation, Litigation – Antitrust, and Mass Tort Litigation/Class Actions – Plaintiffs.
In Minneapolis, Berger Montague was named a Tier 3 law firm for Employment Law – Individuals. This is the first year the firm ranked in Minneapolis, where it has a second office location.
The “Best Law Firms” rankings are based on a rigorous evaluation process that includes collecting client and lawyer evaluations, gathering peer reviews from leading attorneys in the field, and reviewing additional information provided by law firms as part of the formal submission process.
The National Law Journal Names Berger Montague 2018 Elite Trial Lawyers
In 2018, The National Law Journal named Berger Montague Elite Trial Lawyers in two award categories: “Environmental Protection” for the Firm’s work in Cook v. Rockwell International Corporation and “Privacy/Data Breach” for the Firm’s work in Beckett v. Aetna, Inc., et al. The Firm was also recognized as finalists in two additional categories.
Editors and reporters from The National Law Journal reviewed more than 300 submissions across 23 categories for this award. The lawyers and law firms who won demonstrated exemplary performance in cutting-edge work on behalf of plaintiffs over the last 18 months.
The Legal Intelligencer Names Berger Montague a 2018 Law Firm Innovator
Berger Montague, as a Firm, was honored by The Legal Intelligencer with its inaugural Law Firm Innovator award. For the Law Firm Innovator award, The Legal Intelligencer sought attorneys or whole firms that are on the cutting edge of the profession. Boiled down to its essence, this award recognizes those lawyers, legal professionals and law firms who think outside the box and have demonstrated an ability to distinguish their brands in a crowded market.
The National Law Journal Names Berger Montague to its “Hot List” of the Top Plaintiffs’ Law Firms in the United States
Berger Montague won this award in 2004, 2005, 2007-2013, 2015, and 2016. The National Law Journal has called Berger Montague a “case in point” as a “canny, assertive and effective plaintiffs’ firm” (2007); described our Firm as having “a prominent hand in some of the country’s biggest cases” (2005); noted that we have provided “39 years of successful practice, primarily in complex plaintiffs’ litigation in securities, antitrust, consumer fraud, environmental and employment law” (2009); and as having “secured awards and settlements worth billions of dollars for clients in the areas of antitrust, securities, mass torts and civil and human rights” (2004). The Public Justice Foundation Twice Named Berger Montague as “Trial Lawyer of the Year”
In 2009, the prestigious Public Justice Foundation “Trial Lawyer of the Year Award” went to Berger Montague for its work on the Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant Litigation based on its “long and hard-fought” victory against “formidable corporate and government defendants.” The 2009 award represented the second time that Berger Montague won the “Trial Lawyer of the Year Award” from The Public Justice Foundation. Berger Montague’s first “Trial Lawyer of the Year Award” was for the Firm’s work in the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Litigation.
Portfolio Media Names Berger Montague as a Top Plaintiffs’ Employment Practice in the United States
In 2010, Portfolio Media, publishers of Law 360, selected Berger Montague’s Employment Law Department, chaired by shareholder Shanon J. Carson, as one of the top plaintiffs’ employment practices in the United States. Only eight law firms in the United States received this honor.
