Biography

John Timmer, Senior Counsel in the Commercial Litigation Department, represents clients in a variety of complex and commercial litigation matters.  He has decades of experience in litigating complex, multiparty actions for individuals, businesses, and government agencies on both the plaintiffs’ and defendants’ sides.  Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Timmer was a partner with a prominent Philadelphia law firm where he practiced for more than twelve years.   

Mr. Timmer has been counsel in several class actions, including relating to a labor union accused of violating the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act and relating to a manufacturer of roofing shingles concerning claims that the shingles failed prematurely.  

Mr. Timmer also served as counsel to a court-appointed receiver and assisted in recovering more than $9,000,000 for the benefit of investors in a Ponzi scheme.  

Additionally, Mr. Timmer represented a manufacturer of trucks involving product liability claims, represented a chemical company in product liability and breach of restrictive covenant claims, represented individuals in defamation actions alleging that their statements caused the share price of a publicly traded company to drop, and represented a company in claims relating to PPE sales made at the onset of the Covid pandemic.  

Mr. Timmer has also tried a variety of cases.  Mr. Timmer served as trial counsel in obtaining a jury verdict of the School District of Philadelphia on a complex claim involving labor and employment, breach of contract, and promissory estoppel issues. Mr. Timmer also served as trial counsel for the Philadelphia District Attorney, winning a judgment by nonsuit after the close of plaintiffs’ case, in litigation challenging the policies and procedures used to comply with constitutional obligations.   

Mr. Timmer has also represented clients pro bono, including trying cases in federal court to verdict on behalf of incarcerated individuals asserting civil rights claims and representing tenants in landlord-tenant court.     

Mr. Timmer graduated cum laude from Wake Forest University.  He earned a J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School in 2002, where he was an editor of the Journal of Entertainment Law & Practice.  

Mr. Timmer was listed in The Best Lawyers in America for Product Liability Litigation for 2022 and 2023 and has been recognized on the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania Pro Bono Roll of Honor.  He also formerly served as a Barrister at the University of Pennsylvania Inn of Court.
