Berger Montague PC Continues National Expansion With New Offices in San Francisco and Chicago

The New Brick-and-Mortar Offices Will Help Accommodate the National Plaintiffs’ Firm’s Rapid Growth

Berger Montague, the national plaintiffs’ class action and commercial litigation law firm, recently expanded its national footprint by opening offices in San Francisco and Chicago. The law firm has its headquarters in Philadelphia, with additional offices in Minneapolis, San Diego, and Washington, D.C.

The San Francisco office, which opened in February 2023, is located in the heart of the city’s financial district at 505 Montgomery Street, Suite 625, San Francisco, CA 94111. The office will focus primarily on antitrust cases, appeals, and ethics in class actions and complex litigation. But the office will also work with the firm to bolster its representation of clients across its many practice areas, including employment matters, consumer litigation, and governmental representation. The firm intends to grow the San Francisco office, and is looking for talented professionals seeking to join its team of top-notch litigators.

Berger Montague Shareholder Joshua Davis manages the San Francisco office. He is one of the leading scholars in the nation on antitrust procedure, class certification, and ethics in class actions and complex litigation. Mr. Davis has deep roots in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he also serves as a Research Professor at the U.C. College of the Law San Francisco. He also served as Associate Dean, Full Professor, and the Director of the Center for Law and Ethics at the University of San Francisco School of Law, where he was on the faculty for over 20 years. Prior to joining Berger Montague as a Shareholder, Mr. Davis worked for and consulted with two other prominent San Francisco plaintiffs’ class action firms.

Joining Mr. Davis at the San Francisco office is Associate Julie Pollock who practices in the firm’s Antitrust department. Ms. Pollock also has strong connections in the San Francisco Bay Area. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of San Francisco School of Law and served on the Board of Directors for the Legal Aid Association of California, advocating to expand access to critical legal services for low-income Californians.

Together, Mr. Davis and Ms. Pollock seek to expand the firm’s presence on the West Coast. As part of that goal, they will work closely with the leader of the firm’s San Diego office, Sophia Rios.

“I am pleased to introduce Berger Montague to the San Francisco Bay Area and help the firm start this new chapter in Northern California,” said Mr. Davis. “The high-caliber talent and dedicated legal representation that Berger Montague is known for is a welcome addition to the Bay Area and one that I am proud to help establish.”

In addition to the San Francisco office, the firm recently expanded into Chicago. Located at 1720 W Division St, the office is the second of Berger Montague’s offices in the Midwest. The Chicago office will focus primarily on antitrust litigation, but will support the firm’s representation of clients across all of its practice areas. Establishing a presence in Chicago was an easy decision for the firm, as it litigates numerous cases in state and federal courts in the area.

Managing the Chicago office is Senior Counsel Richard Schwartz. Mr. Schwartz concentrates his practice in the area of complex antitrust litigation with a focus on representation of direct purchasers of prescription drugs. A graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, Mr. Schwartz has twice been named on the list of “Ones to Watch” attorneys by Best Lawyers in America.

“Berger Montague has a long history of being at the forefront of antitrust litigation, and opening an office in Chicago is a natural next step for the firm,” said Mr. Schwartz. “The office will be instrumental in our representation of clients in high-stakes civil antitrust matters pending in Chicago.”

Eric Cramer, the firm’s Chairman, commented on these developments as follows: “As part of our growth as an organization, we are expanding our geographic footprint to include two great cities: San Francisco and Chicago. These new offices, and San Francisco in particular, will greatly enhance our ability to serve our clients and classes in all of our practice areas, as well as to attract new talented professionals to our firm.”

Berger Montague PC is a national, full-spectrum plaintiffs’ law firm that litigates complex civil cases and class actions in federal and state courts throughout the United States. For 53 years, Berger Montague has played lead roles in consequential, precedent-setting cases and has recovered more than $36 billion for its clients and the classes they have represented. A pioneer in the use of class actions in antitrust and securities litigation, the firm has since expanded into consumer, employment, environmental, and insurance litigation. Today, Berger Montague has more than 75 lawyers across six offices, including Philadelphia, Minneapolis, San Diego, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.
